Strategy - 1H19/2Q19 Report card – Nothing to write home about

This earnings season mostly saw in-line results with 65% of companies meeting expectations which is the highest in the past five years. In addition, we note that only 8% of the companies beat expectations in 2Q19 which is the lowest percentage of beats in the past three years. Post the results we have reduced our market EPS growth further and have cut our 2019 year-end target for the FSSTI by 7% to 3,210.

Strategy - Assessing scope for valuation expansion among non-REIT stocks

High-yield stocks under our coverage offer dividend yields of 3.8-6.2 %. While some of these stocks appear attractive relative to 10-year SGS, we believe only ComfortDelgro and NetLink NBN Trust offer scope for appreciation beyond our respective target prices due to higher dividend yields. We have BUY ratings on both stocks.

SATS - Awaiting details on capex plans as outlined on Capital Markets Day

SATS outlined a clear growth strategy which included plans to spend S$1b in 3 years and raise gearing to 30%. If all goes well, this could raise ROE. However, we believe that gestation periods for such projects will not be short and investors have to be patient. For now, we do not expect a significant expansion in PE multiples. Maintain HOLD with an unchanged target price of S$5.05. Entry price: S$4.70.

Aviation - Earnings preview: SIA and SIAEC likely to disappoint. STE and SATS likely to deliver organic growth

We expect SATS’ core net profit to rise by 20%, underpinned by growth from the non-aviation food segment, but expect SIA to report a 37% yoy decline on pre-SFRS 1 based numbers. For STE, we expect low-to-mid single-digit earnings growth due to guidance on higher orderbook recognition in 2019, lower financing costs and a likely improvement in the marine sector’s margins. We are not optimistic of an earnings pick-up for SIAEC and expect the company to cut final dividends. Top picks are SATS and STE.

Aviation - Earnings preview: SIA and STE could surprise on the downside; The latter due to one-off impairment charges

We expect SIA to report S$227m in net profit for 3QFY19, a 21% yoy decline on pre-SFRS 1-based numbers, and expect SIA to be more cautious in its forward guidance. For STE, we expect 4Q18 earnings to be hit by an impairment loss from the divestment of VT Leeboy India. For SATS, we expect flat headline net profit but mid- to single-digit growth in underlying 3QFY19 net profit. SIAEC could be a wild card, with potential upside surprise from its engine JV. Top picks are SATS and STE.
