Morningstar | Procter & Gamble's Sales Bounce in 1Q Exemplifying Efforts to Hone Focus; Shares Still Undervalued

Across the consumer products sector, much angst has centered on the ability of firms to reignite sales and offset inflationary headwinds, and Procter & Gamble is no exception. However, if first-quarter results are any indication (organic sales jumped 4%), P&G could be setting out on a new course in fiscal 2019. Growth was broad-based, with four of the firm’s five segments boasting sales gains in the mid- to high-single-digit range, an impressive feat given the intense competitive landscape. The one laggard remains its baby and family care segment (one quarter of sales), where underlying sales ...

Short term view - PROCTER & GAMBLE : Falling.

The trend is bullish. The current fall looks like a consolidation. The support at $77.80 could cause a bullish reaction towards $82.10. The break of $77.80 would endanger the trend.

Vermilion Compass: Weekly Equity Strategy

It took a couple of days following the Treasury yield breakout for the market to really react, and what we got was a full-blown derailment, as the 6+ month S&P 500 uptrend broke down. In today's report we assess the damage and highlight key support levels. • Key levels to monitor on major indexes. Though the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrials (DJI), and Nasdaq 100 are all flirting with their respective 200-day moving a...

For many years, the Household Products and Personal Care (HPC) sector offered attractive long term growth providing products that address the daily needs of millions of consumers around the world. Underlying mid-single digit category growth was supported by innovation, pricing, acquisitions and geographic expansion to support attractive high single digit sales growth which saw the sector earn a premium valuation. However, the growth profile is not what it once was and the sector's valuation has contracted as it works through a series of challenges. Analysis of these issues suggests it is too e...

Morningstar | Wide-moat P&G aims to stem the tide of past market share losses with an eye toward profit gains.

Following Procter & Gamble's multiyear effort to cull around 100 brands from its mix (leaving it with 65), we think the firm is now poised to benefit from an enhanced focus on its core brands. We acknowledge that grooming and baby care continue to languish (around one third of total sales), with each down 2%-3% on an organic basis in the fourth quarter. However, excluding these two segments, sales popped more than 3%, with beauty again the standout (one fifth of sales, up 7%). We think this showcases the first fruits of P&G’s efforts to rationalize its mix. And while improvement has yet to pro...

Wide-moat P&G aims to stem the tide of past market share losses with an eye toward profit gains.

The main question leading up to Procter & Gamble’s fourth-quarter results centered on the company's ability to boost sales and share amid an industry backdrop of tepid pricing and competitive pressures. While organic sales ticked up just 1% in the quarter (entirely driven by increased volume), as has been the case, performance was weighed down by grooming (10% of sales) and baby (27%), which were each lower by 2%-3% on an organic basis. Excluding these two segments, sales popped more than 3%...
